Holiday Home, Mwanza


Forming part of the Pearl Rock Waterfront master-plan, the brief was to design a typical holiday home on the slopes of Luchelele, Mwanza, facing Lake Victoria. The volume is divided into two bedroom wings with central open-plan spaces that lead to a covered area & swimming pool facing the lake.

The brief was to refurbish & remodel the existing detached property in Gerrards Cross to suit the needs of a growing family as well as an aspiring writer. The rear side of the ground floor was opened up to accommodate open-plan dining, kitchen & living spaces looking out to a new patio & existing garden, through new bi-folding doors & window.

A Grade II listed neglected temperance mission hall, previously a plastics factory, is being transformed into a family home & studio for multi-disciplinary designers. The model serves as a testing device for new volumes that will complement the original structure while showcasing its dramatic spaces.

Young V&A Museum

AOC won a competition to redevelop the formerly V&A Childhood Museum to create a more relevant & activating museum with interactive elements. A large interactive model was made in order to test design proposals as well as enable the local community, including children, to engage with the project.

Marejesho Exhibition

Consultancy for APC, Tanzania

Marejesho was a mobile research exhibition that travelled throughout the Kilimanjaro & Meru regions to raise awareness, promote dialogue & exchange information about the Tanzanian cultural heritage currently held in German museums. The exhibition was constructed from materials that could be re-purposed after decommissioning.

Weston Park

Architect at TBA, UK

The client wished to infill the existing void formed by the shape of the existing property in the rear. The ground floor volume is offset to distinguish the new form against the host building & to maintain the character of the conservation area neighbourhood it sits within. Some features include a large quarter circle roof-light & arched doorway.

Spencer Rise

Project Architect at TBA, UK

The design comprises a mansard loft addition on top of a terraced house in a conservation area. The mansard consists of a large roof light for the new stairwell. The cantilevered staircase carefully weaves in with the existing modern interiors of the house with minimal disruption. The balustrade was fabricated off-site.

Turpins Chase II

Consultancy for TBA, UK

TBA designed & delivered the first phase which entailed a remodelling of the entire property to suit the client’s family home needs. In phase 2, the client would like to add a new-build secondary wing which would have an additional lounge area & a work-from-home office/studio.

The IST began implementing its master-plan developed by FNI USA & Troppo Australia with two new classroom blocks, which included a purpose-built fine art studio, outdoor learning spaces & a communal hub for casual group sessions & congregation. APC were commissioned as the executive architects to deliver the project on site.

With Bruno Silvestre, UK

Located in the north of England at the junction of a busy motorway, the new mosque would serve as both a physical & symbolic landmark for a growing local Muslim community. One of the key themes explored was the materiality & how it would complement the overall composition of the scheme.

Coffee Table 01


Directly inspired by the Bao games played on the coast of Tanzania, especially visible in Zanzibar, this Mancala coffee table pays homage to centuries of getting together, competing and spectating.

The form of the legs are inspired by Makonde sculptures that draw references from animal anatomy. The material used is Tanzanian teak to give it a strong character through contrasting grain and colour.

In 2017 AOC won a publicly tendered contract for an overhaul in a phased Public Space Programme (PSP) launched by The National Archives (TNA). This project was Phase 3 of the master-plan. The brief was to establish two new characterful learning rooms embedded within the existing first floor open plan library & document reading rooms.

The brief was to reconfigure the internal layout for the Admin block at the Aga Khan Mzizima Secondary School (AKMSS) in order to improve efficiencies in workflow & management, as well as the communal facilities.

A precise and careful retrofit task in a sensitive environment, the brief was to revitalise the facilities for staff which includes a new disabled access WC and a refurbished kitchenette. The finishes proposal considers the compatibility against the existing beautiful black terrazzo floor finish.

The brief developed into a 2-storey 3-bedroom 275 sqm family home whose terrace provides views towards a nearby mangrove forest & the Indian Ocean. The concept was developed as a modular fair-faced concrete frame & slabs with infill walls articulated by large openings, natural finishes such as locally sourced coral stone & hardwood.

The brief was to maximise free floor space by integrating all 3 elements; beds, storage & study desks into one unit in an otherwise single bedroom. The room was intended for sharing between a sister & brother & as such the colour palette chosen is neutral with soft elements such as bedsheets to give identity but retain flexibility for future uses.

Prefabricated and demountable, it minimizes disruption during construction & allows for future flexibility. A shaded under croft on the ground floor connects key public functions, while the upper floors host open-plan admin offices & a naturally ventilated boardroom terrace. Designed with affordability & adaptability in mind, the building sets a clear tone for the campus transformation through thoughtful planning & modular construction.

Interior design for a Kitchen commissioned by a private client in Dar es Salaam.

The kitchen design offers a hybrid solution of a contemporary and conservative look and feel by using natural materials like local Teak wood and Indian granite carefully crafted with sleek lines and flat planes. As a result, the texture and grain of the materials are the dominant details throughout.
